Biographical informationWoon Yin was born on 22nd May 1879 in Canton, China. He migrated to Melbourne, Victoria in April 1898 (or 1882 stated in WW2 Reg Papers). He was five feet eight inches in height.
At some time after his arrival he moved to Western Australia because he was recorded working as a market gardener at Kalamunda in 1916 and he moved to Hang Woon's Market Garden, Bayswater in 1921.
By 1939 he had moved to Renmark, South Australia and was still working as a market gardener. He moved to 8th Street, Mildura, Victoria in July 1944 and gave his occupation as "vegetable grower". In October 1944 he moved to Buronga, New South Wales (only a few kilometres from Mildura) and remained there, market gardening, until at least 1948.
