Biographical informationWong Toon was born in about 1872 in Canton, China. He migrated to Western Australia on the SS Australind in January 1896. He was just under five feet four inches in height.
He worked as a market gardener at South Perth from at least 1899 to 1934. He travelled to China in October 1899, intending to return within 12 months. He sought an extension to his exemption, "owing to the hinderance of the present trouble in China he could not come in due time" and eventually returned to via the SS Sultan in September 1901.
In 1925 he was leasing land from J.C. Strickland for his market garden (South Perth Rates Book). In 1934 his market garden was at Lot 7, Suburban Road (South Perth Rates Book).
