Biographical informationWing On was born in January 1882 in Canton, China. He migrated to Western Australia in October 1897. He was about five feet five and a quarter inches in height.
He was the manager of the Wing On market garden, Bourke Street, Leederville, in 1916 (B).
In 1933 he was involved in an accident when his horse and cart was hit from behind by a motor car at 8.30pm on University drive, Hollywood.. He was treated in hospital for lacerations to the head, his cart was damaged and his horse killed. The cart was loaded with vegetables which were strewn on the road.
Wing On was still working as a market gardener in May 1940 when he was assaulted by Francesco Italiano (aged 20), a shop assistant. The attack happened in a lane off James Street, Perth. Wing On was hit in the face with a brick. The motive for the attack was found to be that the two had had an argument in a gambling house a few night earlier.
He travelled overseas three times: March 1918 to September 1919; February 1924 to April 1926; and March 1934 to November 1935 (D).
