Biographical informationTong Hing migrated to Western Australia in 1900.
He worked as a market gardener at Northam when he applied for a CEDT in 1912 (G).
His application was rejected because he could not remember the name of the ship on which he arrived in 1900. His interpreter, Albert Washing, stated that the reason for this was that, when he arrived, he was "uneducated and utterly ignorant of the English language". His application was supported by a series of reputable citizens. Whilst he appealed the decision, it does not appear that a CEDT was ever issued in his name.Other nameTong Hing (differentiated name)
