Biographical informationTan Tong Jiok (陳中玉) was born in about 1857 in Macao. He migrated to Western Australia in June 1881.
He was recruited in Singapore to work as a cook under contract in Western Australia for three years for £1 10s 0d per month.
On arrival he was employed by the Rev. W. Allen who reported that Tan Tong Jiok was very ill and suffering from haemoptysis.
