Biographical informationSam Been Samuel was born in September 1873 in Hong Kong. He migrated to Western Australia in March 1889. He was five feet four inches in height "in boots". He was the nephew of Fong Lang.
He was employed by Fong Lang at Geraldton from at least 1893 when he applied for naturalisation which was refused (C). He was a member of the Methodist Church in Geraldton.
In 1912 he was working as a merchant in Geraldton. He was advised that having been born in Hong Kong he was regarded as a naturalised British subject. At this time his wife and three children, two boys and a girl, were living in China.
He travelled overseas from 1913 to October 1917. He moved to Carnarvon Street, Broome, in 1919 (B).
In 1928 he was a partner in Wing Lee & Co and James Wong & Co. He described himself as a licensed pearl dealer with business interests in the USA.
