Biographical informationPhu A Kui was born in about 1870 in Bun Sio (Hailam) [Hainan Island], China. He migrated to Western Australia in May 1890.
He was recruited in Singapore to work as a waiter under contract to James Craig, Beverley, for two years at £2 per month (C). He was then transferred to Mr. Strickland, who dismissed him in 1891. James Craig then wanted Phu Ah Kin to return to his service but Phu Ah Kin refused. Phu Ah Kin was charged with deserting the service of James Craig.
