Biographical informationLong Die Jimmy (良大) was born in about 1871. He migrated to Western Australia and lived at Wyndham from 1889.
He was employed as a cook at the Wyndham Prison for £66 per annum when he applied for a CEDT in October 1898, He resigned from his job in December 1898.
From about 1920 he lived around Narrogin. He worked as a market gardener and sold his vegetables in Narrogin. His market garden was a little out of town along Williams Road. At its prime there were eight Chinese men working on this market garden. By the 1950s, Long Jimmy was the last.
On the night of 3rd September 1952 he was brutally murdered (aged between 78 and 84) in the kitchen of his hut. He was lying across a garden hoe with a depressed fracture to his skull. An 18 year old, Revell Ronald Cooper, was charged with the murder. The jury failed to reach a verdict and so the case went to a retrial.
