Biographical informationLing Tom (aka Ling Sam, aka Ah Jam) arrived in Australia in the early 1890s.
After two years in Western Australia he visited China and returned with his 9 year old son, Ah Hing (19) on 26 October 1899 (I).
Ling Tom ran a laundry in Perth. In July 1905 he was convicted in the Perth Police Court for employing a Chinese assistant during prohibited hours. Ling Tom appealed the decision and won the case.
