Biographical informationLim A Seng (1) was born in about 1849 in Sin Neng, Amoy [Xiamen], (Cantonese), China. He migrated to Western Australia in April 1889.
He was recruited in Singapore to work as a general labourer under contract to Alfred J. Clinch for two years at S$8 per month. Between 1891 and 1894, Lim A Seng was employed by Canning, 156 St Georges Terrace, Perth. He was then employed by Mrs Porter at 6 Lamb Street, Perth.
In November 1896, he became ill with consumption and was unfit for work. He was cared for by Chinese at 171 Murray Street, Perth, who requested that, as they had raised £3, the Government supply the rest of the fare to send Lim A Seng back to China.
