Biographical informationLee Ying was born in 1866 in Canton, China. He migrated to Western Australia in 1891 or 1897. He was five feet five and a half inches in height. His wife and two sons remained in China.

He worked as a cook at York where he owned a property in 1903 (A). He was a partner with Chen Shung in the York Laundry, Avon Terrace, York, from 1908 (F). He moved to Melbourne in 1916 (B).
