Biographical informationLee Joan was born in December 1871 in Canton, China. He migrated to Australia in 1896 and moved to Western Australia in 1900. He was just under five feet seven inches in height.
He worked as a market gardener in Perth in 1910 (E). In 1916 he was working on a market garden in Hamilton Road, Osborne Park, until at least 1920 (B).
He travelled overseas three times: February to December 1910; April to November 1920; and January to October 1926 (D).
In May 1948 he was working as a horse and cart driver in Belmont where he been living for about 28 years. A newspaper reported that he produced two letters in Chinese stating the he must leave Australia because he was too old to work. He was happy but his neighbours were all sad because they thought he was being deported.
