Biographical informationHong Soon was born in August 1873 in Hainan, China. He migrated to Western Australia in 1893. He was five feet six and a half inches in height in 1917.

He worked as a steward employed by the Weld Club, Barrack Street, Perth, from at least 1910 to 1917. In 1925 he was still the title holder of a market garden at at Canning Location 2, Lot 32.
