Biographical informationBorn in Penang in 1862, fifth son of William and Catherine Dicton, of Penang in the Straits Settlement. He arrived in Fremantle in 1874. Cook at Guildford in 1888 (C). In 1898 he lived at Bellevue Tee. Fremantle. In 1899 he was working as a cook in Fremantle at the Oddfellows Hotel in South Terrace. On 11th October 1899 he was shot in the neck by the barman of the hotel, but made a full recovery. Hassan Dicton often acted as an interpreter and translator for the Chinese community in Perth and Fremantle. In 1897 he married Martha Catherine Jones (1873-1947) in Fremantle. He requested reimbursement for 'official interpreting work for the Government and was given £5 in June 1899 (C). In 1906 he was arrested for illegal gambling. In 1909 he held a Certificate of Domicile. During the early 1920s he acted as a Commission Agent in Fremantle.
