Biographical informationGew Thorne was born in about January 1870 in Canton, China. He migrated to Western Australia in November 1880. He was five feet three and a quarter inches in height.

In 1901 he was working in Geraldton as a store assistant, possibly for Wing On Woo.

He worked at Mullewa in 1904, then moved to Geraldton in 1905 where he was employed as a driver by Sydney Fong. In 1921 he worked in Broome. In 1931 he was recorded as a shop keeper in Geraldton.
