Biographical informationFong Kam (金鄺) was born on the 6th November 1880 in Canton, China. He migrated to Darwin, Australia in 1897 and moved to Western Australia in 1898. He was five feet six and a half inches in height. He left his wife and children in China.
He worked as a market gardener at Roebourne from 1911 to 1919 when he moved to a shop at Broome.
Fong Kam was recorded as a cook in 1929 and a baker in Broome in 1936. In 1948 he was working as a market gardener in Glenfield, Geraldton. In 1949 he was living at Carnarvon Street, Broome and gave his occupation as "Business man".
He travelled overseas six times: June 1911 to August 1912; November 1916 to July 1918; February 1923 to June 1925; January 1929 to July 1930; February 1936 to May 1937; and January to December 1947.
His wife, Fong Yee, and son Fong William, arrived in Australia c.1935.
