An Inquest was held into his death after Way Hock claimed that Fong Gee had died after being attacked by a group of larrikins. Several other witnesses gave evidence that they had seen Fong Gee lying in the street. At the inquest, Ah Tack's partner, Ada Garrett, testified that she had heard two other women say that Fong Gee had been kicked to death. The inquest jury returned a finding that the 'death had been due to failure of the heart'.
