Biographical informationFong Fulson was born in 1873 in Xingning County in Guangdong Province, China. He was the father of Fong Hing. He arrived in Western Australia around 1891. He was a store assistant in Geraldton in 1899. He was then made a partner in the firm See Sing & Co. and was the Manager of their Roebourne operations from at least 1910 to 1926.
See Sing & Co. had significant annual turnover, typically between 8,000 and 14,000 pounds of turnover per year. The company ran a general store, tailors, importers and a bakery. They had operations in Roebourne, Cossack and Broome.
Fong Fulson was put under pressure by the Commonwealth Government to engage more in exports. He protested that "In Roebourne there is no goods obtainable to export". He travelled overseas four times, in 1899, February 1906 to November 1907, September 1913 to June 1916, November 1923 to September 1924.
He finally left Western Australia on the 17th December 1926.
