Biographical informationChong On was born in about 1872 in Canton, China. He migrated to Australia in 1892 or 1901. He was five feet six and three quarter inches in height.

He worked as a tailor in Carnarvon Street, Broome, from at least 1910. He visited Darwin in 1920 (B).

He travelled overseas four times: April to August 1908; February 1911 to October 1912; January to November 1916; and June 1920 to June 1921.
