Biographical informationChin Tong (aka Tho Chin Tong) was born in about 1874 in Hainan, China. He migrated to Western Australia in July 1897. He was five feet five and half inches in height.
He applied to return to the colony in 1900 as his master was leaving for England and he wished to visit China. His paperwork suggests he had been in Western Australia for 9 years (which conflicts with later information) and living in Fremantle for the previous 3 years. It is possible his master was Mr Clarke, who may have worked for Dalgety & Co.?
He worked as a "Houseboy" [servant] at the Weld Club, Barrack Street, Perth. He worked as a steward at the Weld Club in 1920 and as a cook in 1931.
He travelled overseas an additional five times: November 1910 to April 1912; July 1919 to August 1920; June 1927 to May 1928; February 1931 to February 1932; and June 1933 to January 1935.Other nameChin Tong (differentiated name)THO CHIN TONG (also known as)Date of birth1871
