Biographical informationChin Shing (aka Ch'en Chieng) was born on the 14th March 1883 in Canton, China. He migrated to Darwin, Australia in March 1897 and moved to Western Australia in 1898. He was just over five feet five inches in height.
He worked as a tailor working for the firm of Sun Chang Shing, Carnarvon Street, Broome, from at least 1916 to 1925 (B). In 1939 he was working as storekeeper in Shiba Lane, Broome and he stated that he was a widower. In 1948 he gave his occupation as storekeeper and gave both his residential and business address as 124 James Street, Perth.
He travelled overseas twice: July 1916 to January 1918; and January 1923 to January 1925 (D).
