Biographical informationBut Fan (aka Bat Fan，不凡) was born in September 1876 in Canton, China. He migrated to Western Australia in 1896. He was five feet nine and a half inches in height.

He worked as a market gardener in Belmont from at least 1911 to 1916. He then moved to a garden in Bourke Street, Leederville (B).
