Ah You's father (?name) had a grocery shop in Murray Street, Perth, before returning to China in 1897. He also had a brother (?name) who lived at Fremantle in the 1890s.
Ah You was twice charged with breaches of the Health Act in 1897 and 1898. He was also sentenced to three months imprisonment with hard labour for selling lottery tickets at 131 Murray Street, Perth (date not known). Ah You was working in a laundry in Wellington Street, Perth, when he applied for a CEDT in 1898. His application was refused.
In 1916 he was working as a market gardener for Kwong Fung at Maylands and in 1917, for Ah Sam in Middleton Road, Albany. In 1918 he returned to Perth and worked on Loo Sing's (Ping) market garden, Osborne Park. He moved to Northam in 1920.
