Biographical informationAh Mong William was born in about 1814 in Ningi, Kwangtung Province, China. He migrated to Western Australia in about 1854. He was the son of Hew Bing (or Heu Bing). His clan name was Zhu.
He married Margaret Archer, daughter of Henry Archer, on 12 April 1858, at Trinity Church, York (BDM 1858/1162). At that time he was working as a servant hawker in York and had become a Christian.
He was working as a cook and trader at Perth in 1873 (I). In the 1880s and 1890s he hawked fish and fruit between Perth and Guildford on horseback.
