Biographical informationAh Hy Lim arrived at Bunbury on the cutter "Swan" on 24th June 1881.
He was contracted to work under contract for Maurice Brett Smith at Harvey. He worked with another Chinese (un-named) who Smith found to be unfit for work. Smith described Ah Hy Lim as 'seems content himself and will probably make a useful assistant in gardening operations' (C). In December 1881, Ah Hy Lim absconded from Smith's service and was sentenced to 7 days imprisonment with hard labour. He was sent to the Perth Gaol as Smith did not wish to re-employ him. Instructions were issued that Ah Hy Lim was not to be sent to the Poor House on his release from jail as he had several friends in Perth who could maintain him (C).Other nameAh Hy Lim (differentiated name)
