Biographical informationAh Hoong (2) was born on the 10th November 1879 in Canton, China. He migrated to Western Australia on the 15th November 1899. He was five feet six and a half inches in height.
He married Gertrude Fitzgerald in 1931 (BDM #100885) and they had four children: 1) Helena "Agnes" Fitzgerald; 2) Doreen Fitzgerald; 3) George Sun On b. 1924 (BDM #100675); 4) Shirley Son On born 10 August 1935 (Sunday Times, 18 August 1935, p. 3)
He was a shopkeeper living and working at 374 Murray Street, Perth, in 1916. This address was listed as the 'Ah Hoong Restaurant' in the Post Office Directories in 1915, 1916, 1917 and 1918.
Ah Hoong was fined 25 pounds for the illegal sale of liquor in Perth in January 1918 (B).
He travelled overseas between November 1927 and December 1929 (D).
There is a reference in a July 1943 newspaper article to Ah Hoong, a cook at the Cafe Canton in William St, but this may not be the same person (Mirror, 10 July 1943, p. 8 and contains a photograph of Ah Hoong).
