Biographical informationAh Gong was born in about 1877 in Canton, China. He migrated to Western Australia in 1896. He was five feet and one inch in height.
He worked as a laundryman at the South Perth Laundry, Roseberry Avenue, South Perth from at least 1911 to 1918. In 1918 the laundry was closed and Ah Gong worked for Ah Sum, Plummer Street, Osborne Park until 1920 when he returned to laundry work at the Sam Sun Laundry in Pier Street, Perth.
Before he travelled overseas in July 1925, Ah Gong was working at the Sing Kee Laundry in South Terrace, Fremantle. He returned to Western Australia in April 1927.
In 1938 he was working as a market gardener in Beechboro Road, Bayswater and it was noted that he spoke "no English". In 1948 he was living in Kelvin Street, Maylands and still market gardening. He recorded his wife as Ah You, born in Canton, China in 1879.
He died at 12 Little Roe Street, Perth on the 13th of June 1955.
