Biographical informationAh Fan was born in about 1877 (stated 4th April 1872 in 1915 CEDT application) in Canton, China. He migrated to Western Australia in August 1896. He was about five feet nine and a half inches in height.
He worked as market gardener in South Perth from 1897 to 1898, then in Wanneroo in 1899. From 1900 to 1914 he worked in Leederville and lived in Newcastle Street, Leederville. He worked as a gardener at Collie Burn, Collie, from 1914 to 1920 (E). Listed as a grocer working for Quong Hong Sing, Lake Street, Perth in 1920 (B). From 1922 to 1926 Ah Fan was a gardener at Guildford (E).
He made four visits overseas: Feb 1904 to 1906; January 1915 to December 1917; May 1919 to August 1920 and October 1926 to June 1929 (D). In 1939 and in 1948 he was single, working as a fruit hawker and living at 10 Coode Street, South Perth. It was noted that he spoke "fair English".
