Biographical informationAh Chew (6) was born in about 1873 in Canton, China. He migrated to Australia in 1896, spent three and a half years in Sydney and then migrated to Western Australia in 1899. He was five feet six and a half inches in height and was blind in his right eye. He was married and left his wife and two children in Canton, China. His children's names were Ah Hay (b. 1912) and Ah Chin (b. 1917).
From 1900 to 1915 he was a market gardener in Osborne Park, residing at 134 James Street, Perth. He travelled overseas from May 1915 to June 1917. In 1918 he worked on Sun Yu Sang's market garden, Charles Street, North Perth.
He moved to Ah Yick's market garden, West Guildford for 4 months in 1919 then to Ah Wah's market garden in Albany. He returned to Sun Yu Sang's market garden in Charles Street, North Perth in 1920 (B). Before he left Western Australia for an overseas trip in July 1923 he was working at 28 Geddes Street, Victoria Park (E).
